Struggle

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

One of the things I keep thinking about if my new found love for cooking and my past lust for technology or Technolust for short ;-) *cough* watch Hak5 *cough*. How do I merge the two together, something that I can share with everyone? Recipes with technology names incorporated, too Microshaft Yellow American Cheesy. Build a gadget to use for each blog; might become a chore and expensive. Review a part of technology while cooking; again unless its free it may become expensive. Dinner and an IPTV/PodCast?

I’m just not sure which direction I want to take it. What are your thoughts? What would you like to see or read about with the combination of the two? Think you have a better idea, let me know.

Not Much

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Nope, not alot going on right now. I’m still cooking alot, trying different recipes, making some of my own. I made my first two batches of strawberry jelly. The first batch didn’t turn out so well but the second batch did so? I’m hoping to do something with my whole cooking thing but I haven’t quite figured out what, per se.

Movies, watched alot of movies lately. One of my new top five is Hot Fuzz. I know you might be thinking, gee Bryan that’s kind of old. Well I hadn’t seen it yet SO BACK OFF! Anyway if you haven’t seen it rent it, good cop comedy. Hancock suck a big one, although I haven’t really been that impressed with Will Smith’s movies as of late. Hulk, meh, still not enough smash and hulk time, to much lovey dovey and story telling. I want to see HULK SMASH! Still it was better the the Ang Lee version. I also saw Love Guru, I had low expectations but ended up having more fun with the movie than I thought I would.

Yup that’s about it.

Anything You Can Do PT2

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Alright I said I would post the method I used to get my Motorola Q9m to tether as a modem for high speed access.

First need to install Gnome PPP

In terminal type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgradeapt-get install gnome-ppp

Before you insert the Card or connect USB cable open terminal window and type:

cat /proc/bus/usb/devices > devices

Insert your data card or plug in USB cable (Make sure phone is in Modem or Tether Mode First) and wait for a few seconds before continuing.
In terminal type:

dmesg

You will get output with some device info like this :

[17186692.460000] usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 2
choices[17186692.460000] cdc_acm 3-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM
device[17186708.176000] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, address 4
[17186714.588000] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address

At the end of this output you will find your device witch will be
represented like this: ttyACM0 or ttyUSB or similar , make note of it
you will need it later.

In terminal type:

sudo gedit /etc/ppp/options

Find and change the following lines so they look like this:

lcp-echo-interval 0
lcp-echo-failure 0

Now click on Applications > Internet > Gnome PPP
Click <Settings>, Enter the device from the steps above: mine was /dev/ttyACM0
Change Speed to the highest setting
Uncheck <Wait For Dail Tone>
Click <Close>

In the line ” Username = ” put your phone number followed by your providers domain, for Verizon it is area code, your phone number and domain, in this format: 9178889999@vzw3g.com for Sprint it will be 9178889999@sprintpcs.com, for AT&T / Cingular WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM, for Alltel 9178889999@alltel.net and so on, further post have config’s posted for other providers.
In line ” password = ” in case of Verizon put: “vzw” for Cingular:
“cingular1″ and so on, make sure to check with your provider as username and/or password may differ for other regions and countries.

Number to dial for Verizon is #777 not sure the others.

Anything you can do

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Ubuntu can do basically the same thing. I’m currently write this entry from my old old laptop with Ubuntu 8.04 installed. I started using this recently because my wifes laptop is sooo painfully slow with Vista, I almost threw it out the window. But I remember I had this machine sitting collecting dust, with the only missing part being a working hardrive. So a few hours and one Creative Zen Jukebox later I had a working system.

I also found and Blitzz wifi pcmcia card laying around, I had bought like 5 of them @ Wal-Mart on clearance for $10, and popped that in. It just worked no installing anything or configuring of any kind. I set my sights higher. I wanted to be able to use my Verizon Wireless Motorola Q9m to connect to the internet. I few google searches later I was off and going. The only thing I was missing was a working replacement for Windows Live Writer, which I had strangely grown to love. Drivel, BloGTK, and Gnome-Blog sucked, hardcore I might add. Finally I setteled for Scribefire which is a firefox plugin. It seems to be working alright, but I will let you know how it turns out. Also I will post the setup for getting Verizon broadband to connect.

mmm Peanut Butter

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Thought I would share this recipe with everyone. I needed a quick dish to take somewhere this weekend. I already had a few different peanut butter fudge recipe, but I thought I would test out one I hadn’t made before. You’ll need:

1 (18oz) jar of peanut butter (crunchy if you want more texture)
1 (16oz) jar of vanilla frosting

 1. Empty entire jar of peanut butter into large mixing bowl
 2. Remove foil lid from frosting, poke holes in the lid and place back on frosting
 3. Microwave frosting for 60 seconds or until completely melted and pour into mixing bowl with peanut butter
 4. Using hand-held electric mixer, mix two ingredients quickly, pour while still soft into 9×13 baking sheet with wax paper, parchment paper or lightly greased
 5. Spread evenly and refrigerate for 1 hour. Then serve.

Peanut Butter Fudge

That’s it. Sounds to easy I know, but I tried it and it tastes great! Although I haven’t let it sit outside the fridge for very long, it seems like it would hold its form.

Global Warming … phht

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Well I don’t know if it just hasn’t hit North East Ohio yet but this global warming is a bunch of bull. It’s the freaking end of May and my furnace is still running. What gives? It better get warmer before this memorial day weekend.

On another note, I signed up for Twitter, today, finally. I added the widget to the website. Twitter seems to be a great idea if you have friends that use it. So I’m asking all my friends, and people I generally care about what they are doing, if they are using it.

One last thing. Dear EBay, you suck! I love buying items off your site but trying to sell something is a pain in the ass. With all these dead-beat bidders running up prices, people not paying for items, and yet you continue to charge me for auctions I myself am not getting paid for. Why don’t you implement some type of system that deducts the amount you earn once your paid, you already do this when people use PayPal. No instead you make me wait 8 days to file a dispute, meanwhile billing me for the auction and charging me again to relist the item because I don’t want to wait 8 days. -End Rant

Reporting for dootie

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Heheh he said dootie.. Not much going on the past couple of days. As usual for Ohio, the weather went from, ahh it’s finally spring to, ahh I shouldn’t have put my winter jacket away yet. Although I did get to play alot of Call of Duty 4 this weekend, which i haven’t had the chance to do.

Speaking of dootie, we trying to get Kayley potty trained. but hasn’t been going that well. For being a very advanced 2 year old, she doesn’t have sense of urgency about going on the big girl potty.

Tonight for dinner, I made my special Mac’n Cheese. Here it goes, you’ll need:

 • Small Box Macaroni Noodles
 • 32oz Block of your favorite cheese
 • 2 tbps of butter (unsalted)
 • 1/3 cup milk
 • 1/2 tsp paprika
 • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
 • 1/2 tsp black ground pepper
 • 1/2 tsp onion powder
 1. Preheat oven (bake) to 375 degrees
 2. Boil a small box of macaroni noodles to al dente
 3. While cooking noodles, dice half the block of cheese and place into medium size mixing bowl, with milk, butter and microwave or 3 to 4 minutes
 4. Add dry ingredients to cheese mixture and stir
 5. Place al dente noodles into oven safe container and pore cheese mixture over noodles and stir until the noodles are covered
 6. Cut thin slices from the remaining block of cheese and place on top, save remaining block for grilled cheese sandwiches
 7. Cover the dish and place in oven for 28 to 30 minutes

That Time Again (Again)

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Seems like it must be the time of the year or something. I go though these phases where I think, gee-willigers it would be nice to blog more often, not that anyone is reading. Well damn it, I’m committing this time, although since no one reads I won’t have anyone to hold me to it, I’m going to blog at the very least every other day.

At first this may be a little bit random but I should have plenty to write about. I have making tons of, from scratch, food. Plus the are kinds of interesting things happening online a can rant about. I just need to find that groove.

Also check out the Google Picasa widget and digg RSS feeds I added. The Picasa widget gets 3 random photos form the latest, or chosen, galleries from our web albums. The digg RSS feed is just the last five stories, videos or pictures I found to be interesting on digg.com. So until next year around this time, no, no I will blog again this week!

Today Barack Obama announced he is going to form an exploratory committee to help him decide whether or not he will run for presidency in 2008. My message to Barack is go for it, I support you 100%. I would also encourage everyone who supports Obama to blog, text and talk to friends; help get the spark started.

Wii Mod / Drive Chip (XenoWii)

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Euro AsiaI was browsing the EurAsia site and saw a news post about the possibility of a Wii Drive ModChip. Here is the quote:

modrobert writes “I just got word that the team behind the successful xenoGC and later xenoGC 2.0 now have a working drivechip for Wii which should be released soon. No further info available at the moment, not even a name, but my guess is xenoWii. ;)”

Now although EurAsia has been a reliable source in the past they have no way to confirm or deny this report. So I guess we will have to do what Rob says and wait.
